No matter how positive you want to be, you can't help but weep for Nigeria: a country where the rich and middle class have destroyed the society almost beyond repair. The oppressed poor who have the number to put an end to this wicked arrangement are fed a lethal diet of hope, everyone doing whatever is possible to join the oppressing classes. Sadly, the poor do not see themselves as victims of a failed system that is rigged against them. Since they consider themselves as aspiring rich, these shenanigans will continue until the system snaps.
Whose job is it to plan the cities and towns to mitigate against the full brunt of unpredictable environmental factors: the middle class aspiring to join the rich club? Whose job is it to put systems in place for disaster prevention and relief? Isn't it the same middle class? Whose job is it to act as advocates for the oppressed poor? Who are the top health managers and medical directors who should provide a responsive emergency system with well equipped and functioning health institutions? The same middle class that diverts resources meant to provide safety nets so they too can join the rich class. Even countries at wars have better quality of life that those at the bottom of our society. Everyone is in a rat race to avoid the plague called poverty.
We're a nation that despises the poor and have no plan for them. We're a nation destroyed by the elegantly packaged poison called hope. Hope keeps us in chains so our oppressors can do their dirty business on us without any fear of reprisals.
