SEN. UBA'S NEW BILL SCALE FIRST READING, DEBUNK RUMOUR OF 500 MILLION NAIRA BRIBE

The dearth of university spaces for young Nigerians, particularly youths within the South East region and Anambra State may be a thing of the past as a bill seeking to establish the Federal University of Uga scaled through its first reading yesterday.

The piece of legislation which is the brainchild of Senator Andy Uba seeks to help boost the quality of education in Nigeria, particularly in his constituency area of Anambra South.

Uba, who spoke with pressmen after the bill scaled it's first reading explained that the purpose of the bill was to help mitigate the burden on a number of universities within the southeast, owing to the huge amount of applications these universities received on a yearly basis with fewer spaces than the population which sought  admissions.

This he said leaves most universities raising the cut off marks in order to prune the pressure on them, denying a number of these applicants access to tertiary education.

The frontline aspirant of the APC and Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Senator Andy Uba has also debunked the rumours circulated online that he had bribed the National Chairman of the APC in order to enable him pick the ticket of the APC Anambra in the forthcoming primaries, stating that nothing could be further from the truth and blamed it on some fellow aspirants who had decided not to play fair.

Uba said this in a statement made by the Director of Media, Mrs. Ndidi Kennedy- Ukaga yesterday.

" We witnessed yesterday another low point in our campaign to rid Anambra of the poor style of governance presently witnessed under this present administration.

While Senator Uba has always sought to campaign on issues and his level of experience, some of his fellow aspirants, whose really have no selling point have chosen to mudslinging and character assassination.

Naturally, we have responded adequately without resorting to name calling or the fabrication of stories as it is not in our candidate's  character to do so, we have rather focused more on matters affecting the delegates, matters affecting the party , matters affecting our dear state and the solutions to them.

We are however saddened that whereas we have acted  maturely in these cases, these aspirants have decided to drag the name and office of the APC National Chairman, Chief John Oyegun in  an allegation that is rather ridiculous.

The story accusing our principal of bribing the National Chairman with 500 million Naira is nothing more than  petty mischief construed to tarnish the name of our principal and party Chairman as well as an attempt to taint the expected victory of Senator Uba at the forthcoming primaries.

Let us again state that Senator Uba will not attempt to bribe any officer of the party as we have no need for such, since we have been campaigning hard to the delegates, who  are largely becoming more responsive to the Excel Agenda of Uba."
