What is Chatbot for Facebook Messenger and How Does It Works?

For some years now, Facebook keep expanding what people can do on Messenger, creating the best and most engaging experiences.

Part of this effort is the introduction of bots for the Facebook Messenger Platform, which was announced at the 2016 F8 conference during which Facebook pitched bots to developers as the best way small- and medium-sized businesses can quickly connect with over 900 million Messenger users.
Since then, there has been a lot of hype surrounding Facebook Messenger chatbots, and they are quickly becoming a standard part of any digital marketing strategy.
As Zuckerberg put it in his keynote, “No one wants to have to install a new app for every business or service they want to interact with.” And bots are much different than disjointed apps. In other words, building into the already popular Facebook Messenger app could enable businesses to get in front of customers without that added friction“.
At least, that’s the potential …

Facebook Bots How Do They Work ?

“Bot” is a generalized term used to describe any software that automates a task.
Chatbots, which anyone can now build into Facebook Messenger, automate conversation — at least the beginning stages of it.
Once it is built and integrated with a Facebook business page, the Facebook bot can automatically interact with users, allowing them to automatically get immediate responses to some basic questions or requests via Messenger.
Bots can provide anything from automated subscription content like weather and news updates, to customized communications like receipts, shipping notifications, and live automated messages all by interacting directly with the people who want to get them.
Bots let you perform tasks within Messenger that would otherwise require you to open an app, go online, or make a phone call.
For example, you can open up Facebook Messenger at breakfast and ask your weather bot what Mother Nature has in store for you that day. Then you can ask your favorite newspaper bot for the latest sports or business headlines. Planning a trip? Message a travel bot for flights and hotel recommendations, to rent a car, and more.
Facebook chatbots make it easy for Facebook users to connect and interact with lots of businesses right inside Facebook Messenger without the need of downloading mobile apps of all the businesses or having to visit their websites everytime.
If you visit the Facebook page of a business that has integrated bot for Messenger and click on the “Message” button, the bot will respond immediately, answering questions conversationally and in real-time while you chat with the bot.
All the programming happens behind the scenes, with the Facebook chat bot interpreting your chats, searching its database for the answers and providing the information to you on the other end. Bots use AI technology to understand your queries, find the right response, and deliver it in as conversational and “human” a way as possible.

The best way to understand these Bots is to use them yourself and testing out these Bots couldn’t be easier.
You can interact with a Facebook chatbot via it’s url, by clicking the message button on it’s facebook page or by clicking the chat button if integrated on a website.
For example, you can check out the Ogbongeblog chatbot which I personally set up for content distribution and leads generation.
You can access it via https://m.me.ogbongeblog
I’ve set up the bot to basically allow you to view latest posts published on the blog right inside Facebook Messenger. You can as well subscribe for updates via the chatbot so you can get latest updates from the blog delivered right inside your Facebook inbox everytime there is a new blog post.
There are other thousands of use cases of chatbots out there. I will shed more light on these later.
